GEORGETOWN, Texas — Southwestern University welcomed more than 90 community members to campus on June 25 for a public Town Hall focused on Southwestern University 560 (SU 560), the University’s planned 560-acre mixed-use development adjacent to its historic Georgetown campus.

The event provided an opportunity for neighbors, community stakeholders, and local residents to learn more about the vision for SU 560 while sharing ideas, questions, and priorities that will help inform future planning efforts.

“We are grateful to everyone who took the time to join us, ask thoughtful questions, and share their perspectives,” said Laura Skandera Trombley, president of Southwestern University. “One of the guiding principles of SU 560 is creating a place that strengthens connections between the University and the broader Georgetown community. The feedback we received at the Town Hall is an important part of that process.”

Invitations to the event were mailed to more than 3,800 nearby residents and supplemented through digital outreach and personal invitations. Attendees participated in presentations, breakout discussions, and conversations with project representatives and subject matter experts. Following the event, the University collected 41 comment cards, 58 table notes, and additional feedback through one-on-one conversations.

Several key themes emerged during the discussion, including:

  • Mobility, access, and connectivity, with strong interest in walkability, bicycle infrastructure, trail connections, and safe pedestrian crossings.
  • Green space and sustainability, including preservation of natural areas, heritage trees, stormwater management, ecological landscaping, and the future Eco Gateway.
  • Culture, art, and identity, including public art, local partnerships, cultural programming, and placemaking opportunities.
  • Housing, retail, and amenities, including affordable housing, restaurants, gathering spaces, healthcare services, and neighborhood compatibility.
  • Development planning and implementation, including questions about financing, ownership, project phasing, parking, and opportunities for continued community engagement.

The Town Hall represents an important milestone in the planning process and reflects Southwestern University’s commitment to transparency, collaboration, and thoughtful development.
